An optimized up to 16‑user and 160 Gbps dual cascaded optical modulators PON‑based power combined array fiber Bragg grating and pre‑distortion device for 5th G system

Abstract
Passive optical network (PON) technology has evolved to meet the needs of 5th-generation systems, requiring higher data \r\nrates and longer fiber link lengths. This study introduces a novel architecture for a PON serving up to 16 clients with a total \r\nbit rate of up to 160 Gbps, using a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical transmitter. Three unique techniques \r\nare used in the optical line terminal (OLT), including a dual cascaded direct vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) \r\nmodulator, a non-reactive zero zone (NRZ) and an impulse generator, and a pre-distortion device (PD). The power efficiency \r\napproach focuses on enhancing linearity in transmitter amplifiers. An alternative approach, Power Combined Array Fiber \r\nBragg Grating (PCAFBG), is introduced before de-multiplexing. The configuration involves 8 VCSELs modulating 8 (up to \r\n16) data sources, which are then introduced to 8(up to 16) MZM before multiplexing. A post-PCAFBG is used before optical \r\ndemodulation. Performance measurements were conducted using OptiSystem 20, and the proposed model performance was \r\nmeasured using Q-factor and max OSNR. The simulation results showed that using PCAFBG post-compensator extended \r\nthe fiber length by 36 km more than without PCAFBG. For each user the impulse generator overruns NRZ coding format \r\nfor data rates of about 10 Gbps, up to a maximum attainable distance of 86 km.
