Introduction

In accordance with the academic standards and quality assurance framework of Knowledge University (KNU), the Teaching Evaluation Rules establish a comprehensive and systematic approach for assessing teaching performance across all academic programs. These rules aim to ensure transparency, fairness, and continuous enhancement of teaching quality, while aligning with national higher education requirements and international best practices.

Teaching evaluation at KNU is a structured, multi-source process that incorporates student feedback, peer review, and quality assurance mechanisms to support evidence-based improvement in teaching and learning.

1. Purpose

The Teaching Evaluation Rules are designed to:

  • Ensure high standards of teaching effectiveness and academic delivery.
  • Promote a student-centered learning environment.
  • Provide measurable indicators for teaching performance.
  • Support continuous professional development of academic staff.
  • Inform institutional quality assurance and accreditation processes.

2. Scope

These rules apply to:

  • All academic staff (full-time and part-time).
  • All courses offered at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • All teaching modalities (face-to-face, blended, and online).

3. Components of Teaching Evaluation

Teaching evaluation at KNU is based on the following key components:

A. Student Evaluation

  • Conducted at the end of each semester via the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Measures student satisfaction, clarity of teaching, and engagement.

B. Class Observation

  • Conducted by QA coordinators, peers, or DQA representatives.
  • Assesses teaching practices and classroom performance.

C. Peer Review

  • Academic staff evaluate each other’s teaching practices.
  • Encourages sharing of best practices and academic collaboration.

D. Self-Evaluation

  • Academic staff reflect on their teaching performance and identify areas for improvement.

4. Evaluation Criteria

Teaching performance shall be assessed based on:

  • Clarity of learning objectives and course organization.

  • Use of teaching technologies and LMS tools.

5. Evaluation Procedures

  • Evaluation forms shall be standardized and approved by the DQA.
  • Student evaluations shall be conducted anonymously.
  • Class observations shall follow the approved observation policy.
  • Evaluation results shall be compiled and analyzed at the end of each semester.
  • Academic staff shall receive formal feedback reports.

6. Scoring and Weighting (Recommended Model)

Teaching evaluation may be calculated based on the following indicative weights:

  • Student Evaluation: 40%
  • Class Observation: 30%
  • Peer Review: 20%
  • Self-Evaluation: 10%

(Note: The weighting system may be adjusted based on institutional decisions.)

7. Feedback and Improvement

  • Evaluation results shall be communicated confidentially to academic staff.

8. Roles and Responsibilities

A. Directorate of Quality Assurance (DQA)

  • Develop and maintain evaluation tools and guidelines.
  • Monitor implementation across colleges and departments.
  • Ensure consistency and integrity of evaluation processes.

B. College/Department QA Coordinators

  • Oversee the administration of evaluations.
  • Ensure student participation in evaluation processes.
  • Report findings to DQA.

C. Academic Staff

  • Participate in evaluation processes professionally.
  • Reflect on feedback and improve teaching practices.

9. Confidentiality and Ethical Standards

  • All evaluation data shall be treated as confidential.
  • Results shall be used solely for quality improvement and professional development.
  • The evaluation process shall be conducted with fairness, transparency, and respect.

10. Use of Evaluation Results

Evaluation outcomes may be used for:

  • Academic staff development and training.
  • Quality assurance reporting.
  • Teaching excellence recognition.
  • Institutional planning and improvement.

11. Policy Review

These rules shall be reviewed periodically by the Directorate of Quality Assurance to ensure alignment with evolving academic standards and regulatory requirements.
