Comment on «Psychoneuroimmunology of mental disorders»

Abstract
The area of psychoneuroimmunology has received increasing interest during the last generation. A major reason for\r\nthis is due to our improved understanding of the dynamics between visceral responses and affective states. Saying\r\nthis, our knowledge of the complexity of these processes is\r\nincomplete. A significant finding in psychoneuroimmunology\r\nis the role of inflammatory processes in mental disorders.\r\nThis is a very broad topic which has been discussed by Soria\r\net al.1 Firstly, I commend the authors for focussing on the\r\ndiagnostic and therapeutic aspects of mental disorders in\r\nrelation to psychoneuroimmunology. The authors provide a\r\nconcise and insightful overview of major mental disorders\r\nand the involvement of cytokine activity in their etiology. As\r\nthe authors note, previous studies draw a strong correlation\r\nbetween cytokine induced inflammation and schizophrenia,\r\ndepression, bi-polar disorder and PTSD
