Research Published on the Anfal Tragedy\\\'s Impact on Kurdish Poet Muayyad Tayeb

Erbil, Kurdistan Region

On the anniversary of the Anfal campaign, one of the darkest chapters in Kurdish history, M. Rabi Zebari, a lecturer at Knowledge University, has published a poignant research paper shedding light on the cultural and emotional scars left by the genocide. The study, titled “Impact of the Kurdish Genocide on the Poet Muayyad Tayeb,” appears in the latest edition of Qalay Zanist magazine. Through detailed literary and historical analysis, the paper explores how the horrors of the Anfal campaign shaped Tayeb’s poetic voice, themes, and emotional expression.

The Anfal campaign, carried out in the late 1980s, led to the death and disappearance of tens of thousands of Kurds. For decades, its effects have echoed not only in Kurdish politics and society but also in the arts and literature. M. Rabi Zebari’s research stands as a significant contribution to understanding how trauma and memory manifest in Kurdish poetic identity.

The publication arrives on April 14, the official remembrance day of the Anfal genocide, serving both as a tribute and a call for continued reflection and justice.
