Food Waste Measurement at Knowledge University Cafeteria – 2024 | Knowledge University Campus
Knowledge University actively monitors and evaluates food waste generated on campus as part of our commitment to sustainability and responsible consumption.
In cooperation with the cafeteria service provider, a weekly tracking process is conducted for measuring leftover food after meal services.
Based on our internal 2024 tracking records, the average volume of food waste generated in the main cafeteria is approximately 22–26 kg per week, serving an average campus population of around 4,500 students and staff.
This estimation is taken from routine weight-based measurement of unsold and plate-returned food at the end of each day.
This ongoing monitoring helps our university:
- identify peak food waste periods
- adjust supply and menu planning
- strengthen awareness among students and staff
- reduce overall environmental impact
This initiative reflects Knowledge University’s strategic commitment to support SDG 2 – Zero Hunger, by minimising unnecessary waste and encouraging more sustainable food consumption patterns.
