Effect of Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S) on the Oil Industry

The College of Engineering – Department of Petroleum Engineering at Knowledge University is organizing a scientific workshop entitled “Effect of Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S) on the Oil Industry.”

The workshop will be presented by Assist. Prof. Qasim Yahya Mohammed and will focus on the chemical and physical properties of hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), its sources and formation during oil and gas production and processing operations, as well as its technical, environmental, and health impacts on the petroleum industry.

During the workshop, the potential hazards associated with the presence of H₂S in oil fields and petroleum facilities will be discussed in detail. Particular attention will be given to its effects on industrial equipment and infrastructure, as well as modern methods and technologies used for detecting, monitoring, measuring, and controlling this hazardous gas.

The workshop will also highlight the importance of implementing appropriate occupational health and safety standards and following effective preventive measures to protect workers, facilities, and the surrounding environment from the risks associated with exposure to hydrogen sulfide.

This scientific workshop is part of the academic and scientific activities of the Department of Petroleum Engineering, aiming to enhance the scientific knowledge and practical skills of students and academic staff. It also seeks to strengthen the connection between theoretical knowledge and the practical challenges and requirements of the oil and gas industry.
