International workshop on Gas Flaring: Focus on Iraq
<p>on <strong>Saturday, NOV. 6, 2021, </strong>the department of Petroleum Engineering, University of Knowledge held an International workshop from 10:00 am<strong> – 1:30 pm</strong> entitled: <strong>Gas Flaring: Focus on Iraq</strong> in Conferences Hall and Online.<br><br><br><strong>Speakers:</strong><br><br>1-Engineer <strong>Mohammad Helmy Abu Zahra</strong>, Head of research and development at Cairo Oil Refining Company.<br>2-<strong>Sarah Rashid</strong>, Ph.D. lecturer at Petroleum Engineering Department, KNU</p><p>Number of attendees: 48<br><br><strong>The objective of this Workshop:</strong><br><br>Gas flaring is one of the most challenging energies and environmental problems facing the world today.<br>Gas flaring is the process of burning off associated gas from wells, hydrocarbon processing plants, or refineries, either as a means of disposal or as a safety measure to relieve pressure, about <strong>150 billion m3</strong> of natural gas is flared around the world. <strong>Iraq</strong> was the world's second-worst gas flaring nation after <strong>Russia</strong> in <strong>2020</strong>, according to the World Bank. The world bank estimates around <strong>17.374 billion m3</strong> of gas from the Iraqi field was flared in <strong>2020</strong>.<br><br>The goal of this workshop is to highlight the gas flaring system by discussing the principles of gas flaring, Application, Design, Operation, and emissions monitoring.</p>
