The president of Knowledge University participated in an international scientific conference in Erbil and gave a speech about KNU
On Thursday, 26/5/2022, in the presence of Assist. Prof. Dr. Kayhan Zrar Ghafoor, President of Knowledge University, and with the participation of a number of researchers from different universities in Iraq, the Mnara Foundation for Development and Education held its second international scientific conference in Erbil under the title: (The spaces of the digital age. Reality, challenges, and prospects for the future), and Assist.Prof.Dr.Kayhan Zrar Ghafoor, president of Knowledge University, delivered a speech on KNU in which he talked about all the colleges, departments, and laboratories of the university and also mentioned the number of registered students In the university and the great achievements and academic progress that University has got in the past years till now and the further development of KNU in terms of ranking and university cooperation with several universities, institutes, and various organizations, and the university's efforts to be international in the near future.
The university president's speech:
Knowledge University is a private university that was established in 2009. The university's name was Hayat Private University for Science and Technology. In 2017, the university's name was changed to Knowledge University (KNU). The university is licensed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
There are six colleges and eleven departments in the university:
College of Engineering, (We have two departments; Computer Engineering and Petroleum Engineering)
College of Pharmacy, (one department which is pharmacy department)
College of Science, (We have two departments in this college; Medical Laboratory Science, Computer Science, and Medical Microbiology)
College of Law, (We have two departments; Law department and International department)
College of Education, (in this college we have English Language Department)
College of Administrative and Financial Sciences, (in this college, we have two departments, Accounting department and Business Administration department)
The university can accommodate up to 4000 students and this figure is the minimum estimation based on the current spaces available. At the time of writing this, there are more than 2670 students enrolled in the university. The university’s campus is encompassing modern-style architecture buildings and huge car parking lots surrounded by beautiful gardens. The campus is one of the best campuses in the country known for its green and sustainable program objectives. Knowledge University has probably the largest paved car parking area within the university’s campus perimeter among all other private universities in Kurdistan. It is appropriately marked with street signs that will guide traffic to avoid congestion. Moreover, the university campus has the potential for future expansion, and there are plans for new colleges and departments. Other facilities include a football field, cafeterias, and a restaurant. Access to all buildings is facilitated either by walkways throughout the many gardens within the campus. In addition, the university has many other facilities, such as an international conference hall and an auditorium hall, each spanning 2275 Square meters. There are numerous labs within the different faculties. These labs are equipped with all the necessary equipment and instruments required for conducting relevant experiments and tests.
I enrolled as the new President of Knowledge University in January 2021. The ranking of the university was 23219 globally in January 2021 version. After hard work, we could improve 9548 ranks globally in the webometric July 2021 version, and it was being the first among all the universities in the Kurdistan Region per development. In addition, our university improved by 7628 ranks in the last version of webometrics, and now the global ranking of our university is 6045. Since we started working till now, we have taken good steps, and we have developed university in many fields. Knowledge University has now become one of the most powerful universities in the Kurdistan region and Iraq. We developed a university on different sides like improving the learning management system, quality assurance, alumni, conducting activities, publishing research in famous journals, etc. We focused on quality assurance, and we've made many online automatic systems for quality assurance, such as Automatic Online Activity Announcement, Online Activity Attendance, and Registration System, Online Student Feedback, Teacher Portfolio, Online Continues Academic Development (CAD), QA Automatic Scoring System, Online, Teacher Permission System, Online Teacher Attendance System, etc.
We have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with more than 20 institutions and organizations like Tomas Bata University in Zlin, Erbil Polytechnic University, Tikrit University, Islamic Azad University, Eastern Mediterranean University, etc.
Our university conducts many national and international events like conferences, workshops/symposiums, training courses, seminars, community activities, sports activities, art activities, etc.
Moreover, we are working now and are close to getting the accreditation from the British ASIC organization, and our university will become an international university.
