Revolutionizing detection: Smartphone-powered colorimetry for the drugs and food analysis
Abstract
n recent years, the progress in smartphone technology has made them affordable and versatile platforms for various applications, including chemical analysis. This article explores the evolving landscape of smartphone-assisted colorimetry, focusing on its role in the detection of drugs and food coloring. We provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of smartphone-assisted colorimetry. Our review focuses on smartphone-based colorimetry methods, explicitly examining the measurement of light absorption through smartphone apps and the accompanying instruments and software used in these processes. We also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using smartphones for colorimetric assays. Additionally, we present successful real-world applications of smartphones for quantifying the concentration of specific chemicals in diverse samples through colorimetric assays. Finally, we explore potential future directions for smartphone-based colorimetry, offering insights into how this technology could further revolutionize the field of chemical analysis. In conclusion, integrating smartphones into colorimetry shows excellent promise as an affordable tool for detecting narcotics and food coloring, potentially reshaping the landscape of chemical analysis.
