Erbil Hosts First International Conference on Human Rights to Mark Universal Declaration of Human Rights Anniversary

Erbil witnessed a momentous event on December 10th, as the first International Conference on Human Rights was held to commemorate the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Under the theme “Together to Improve the Human Rights Situation,” the conference aimed to address pressing human rights issues and promote collaborative solutions in the Kurdistan Region.

The event was organized under the direct supervision of Dr. Muna Yaqo, Chairperson of the Independent Commission for Human Rights, and brought together prominent officials, including Ministers of Interior, Justice, and Education, as well as consuls of several countries, judges, ministry representatives, advisors, university professors, activists, and journalists. Representing Knowledge University, Mr. Hamad Karim, a lecturer from the College of Law, participated in the conference and contributed to the discussions. His presence underscored the institution's commitment to advancing human rights education and advocacy in the region.

In his welcoming speech, Sulaiman Mohsen, Director General of the Office of Communications and Information, emphasized the significance of the conference and expressed his gratitude to the attendees for their dedication to human rights issues. He noted, “The discussions and outcomes of this conference will play a vital role in improving the human rights situation in the Kurdistan Region.” The conference served as a platform for dialogue and exchange of ideas among stakeholders, fostering a collective commitment to addressing human rights challenges and promoting equality, justice, and dignity for all.
