The Department of Law depends on the common annual system in the Iraqi universities in general, and in the Kurdistan Region in particular, where previously the student must pass four years and currently is five years successfully to obtain a bachelor's degree in law.
The College of Law decided to follow a Modern, standard, and successful model for legal study to represent the annual system of the jurisdiction of the law between Iraqi universities and now with implementing the decisions and characterization of the Ministry of Higher Education in the Kurdistan region (KRG) and therefore adopted a five-year system. The college of Law offers a bright future for our students of law program graduation. The basic objective of our programs is to produce professionally well-trained, excellent, and competent legal personnel who are committed in the legal professions in parallel with the legal necessity and requirements in private and public sectors inconsistent with national aspiration in both Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
Our programs attempt to provide fundamental legal knowledge and understanding of the features of the legal system and laws in Kurdistan and Iraq. We focus on our students’ intellectual, excellence, written and interpersonal skills, to direct and enable them to be flexible and open minds, also to allow them to have the ability to think logically, critically, and analytically as well as to facilitate them with a creative approach of problem-solving in all legal fields in society. Moreover, our programs directly to prepare highly qualified cadres in the various legal specializations and equip them with practical and theoretical legal knowledge this is by providing them with distinguished education and producing innovative research that serves society. However, the programs have built in the way that guarantees firstly, learn and behave students to obey and respecting laws and rights secondly enable students to play their role successfully to find legal solutions for legal issues and disputes in our society, also to participate with state institutions and legal bodies in spreading legal awareness to protect human rights by achieving the rule of law and justice in society
The Law department searching to build a base of innovators and specialists in law science, to form a distinguished scientific base in legal areas related to the knowledge and implementation of the law, and to prepare plans for the development of the educational tools in order to ensure the fulfillment of the highest quality requirements in Kurdistan, Iraq and the world
The elevation in all improvement of legal culture needs the high quality of the students as being classified among higher scientific standards. The department of law is also having the duty with selecting well-experienced academic staff and faculty with advanced academic titles, as well as preparing a well-established library, using modern teaching and training methods theoretically and practically that containing E-Learning and the modern standard methods of communicating information, keeping pace with the latest legislation
Students in this Department have the opportunity to participate and get positons and jobs in public and private institutions in the Kurdistan Region. Graduates from the Department of Law have found positions in a number of professional fields, including Lawyer in Bar Association -Legal consultant, positions as juristic in judicial, legislative, and executive authorities in KRG and Iraq especially in the Ministry of Justice and diplomacy, public administration, also in private sectors such as Companies, media, non-governmental and the business sectors
