Overview

The Medical Laboratory Science Department required core courses to introduce you to a body of subject knowledge and fundamental skills that are essential for your master's in biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, molecular, laboratory management, quality control, and method validation.

It is also exploring you to avail opportunities for experiences in more-specialised core areas, including toxicology, endocrinology, metal analysis, human cell therapy, fertility testing, parasitology, mycology, molecular genetics, biochemical genetics, personalised genomics, clinical immunoassay, mass spectrometry, infectious diseases serology, and HIV and hepatitis testing laboratories.

 

Vision 

 

The vision of the DMLS is to be among the region’s premier small research and teaching Medical Laboratory Science programs for undergraduates. Also, DMLS envisions to build the student's personality from several aspects in an integrated manner to be a distinguished graduate of this department at all levels and has a scientific and professional ability which qualifies them for success in their career as Medical Laboratory Technicians to serve their communities.

 

Mission 

 

The Department of Medical Laboratory Science (DMLS) at Knowledge University strives to build students as competent Medical Laboratory Science professionals, and serve as the workforce to solve the health issues of the local and regional community. Students are provided with a curriculum that addresses and meets the demands of the changing technology and practice in the profession. Graduates are often involved in administrative, educational, supervisory, or other leadership roles in the employment setting, and/or leadership positions in organisations. Therefore, students are empowered to become full participants in the university community through excellent instruction in language, cultural awareness, and study skills.

Also, our faculty is committed to preparing capable Medical Laboratory Technicians with the necessary skills, attitudes, and professional integrity to become contributing professionals in the health care community.

There are several different jobs in the area of Medical Laboratory Science. Structure

The undergraduate Medical Laboratory Science program at the Department of Medical Laboratory Science is a four years Bachelor of Science (BSc) program (8 semesters). The fourth-year allows the study of advanced topics and an in-depth research project. The Total modules taught are 48 with a final year project. 

The course concentrates on creating links between theory and practice. Skills Development

The Department of Medical Laboratory Science program is focused on the technical aspects of software creation. Graduates of the program are expected to:

 

·         Attain an ability to apply knowledge of biology and laboratory science appropriate to the discipline.

·         Attain an ability to apply core knowledge, skills, and professional attitude necessary to accurately and proficiently perform and evaluate clinical analyses.

·         Attain an ability to deepen the concern for others which carries with it the responsibility of good patient care and cooperation with fellow employees.

·         Attain an ability to become proficient in all aspects of managing clinical laboratory analysis projects and inculcate their interest in the growth and development of MLS as a profession. 

·         Attain an ability to function effectively on teams to accomplish a common goal.

·         Attain an understanding of professional, ethical, legal, security, and social issues and responsibilities.

·         Attain an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.

·         Attain an ability to analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society.

·         Attain recognition of the need for an ability to engage in continuing professional development.


Admission Criteria

High school certificate or 5 years’ diploma certificate, and have obtained a high school average score of 62% or above.
