KNU Workshop #11: Strategies to Enhance Marketability of KNU Graduates

In the context of job hunting, “marketability of KNU graduates” refers to several things. It refers to how desirable a candidate is for employment consideration; what a candidate is worth as a prospective hire. Corporate employers want to hire academically prepared, highly motivated, and ambitious workers who offer them a good, long-term return on their investment. This workshop will motivate us to prepare our graduates to showcase their talent in the work front.

Enhancing technical skills

To market the upcoming graduates, based on the suggestion from various research articles, states that there are two prospective strategies that are internal and external. Internal perspectives are Enhancement Scientific Skills (ESS), Organisation Skill (OS), Creativity & Innovative Skill (CIS) and Research and Scholarship Skill (RSS). External Perspectives are Industrial Talks and Visits (ITV) and Invited Alumni Talks (IAT). 

It is identified as the rapid advancements in science and technology affect almost every academic field and occupational profession. Whether planning a career in health care, law, engineering, criminal justice, teaching, human sciences, the military or financial services, it is essential that the graduates understand how technology influences line of work. A graduate must be technologically savvy and can more easily comprehend how advances in technology enable them to perform their job duties more efficiently.

Smart workers understand the importance of relating their work and occupational interests to the dynamics of the global economy. The strategy goes beyond comprehensive networking. Career enhancing mentor with achievers who have achieved distinction in the respective academic / occupational field and is willing to offer career guidance and support. A well-connected mentor likely has inroads into influential professional organisations. Such inroads can benefit in a number of ways.

At the end of our workshop you will be engaged and learn;

  1. How do we train the upcoming graduates to make themselves more marketable?
  2. How do we train the graduates to be more dynamic in the work front?
  3. How to prepare them to be technically savvy?
  4. What positive impact the graduates of KNU will create in the global economy.
The tasks for participants 
  1. Post workshop questionnaire (each participant will be provided a questionnaire to be filled) session for the participants to take part in a survey to identify the gaps between the scope of the present curriculum and the requirements of the global market.

Speaker Profile

This is a dual scholar workshop and two of our scholars will host the workshop session.

Dr. Ramchand Vedaiyan (ORCID Profile) is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science, College of Science, Knowledge University (KNU). He holds his Bachelors, Masters in Computer Science from Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli and second Master in Computer Science and Engineering from S.R.M University, Chennai, Tamilnadu and Doctorate from School of Computer and Systems Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has published various articles in both International Journals and Conferences. His research interests include Wireless Sensor Networks and Ad Hoc Networks.

Dr Vijay Thiru (ORCID Profile) is Indian scientist with a Ph.D., in Biochemistry from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, M.Sc., M.Phil., from Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli and B.Sc., from University of Madras, Chennai, India. He is a senior Assistant Professor of Biochemistry, Department of MLS at KNU. He is a co-author of numerous publications in the medical and health sciences. He has presented papers at international conferences and engaged with the media on science topics. His research interests include herbal medicine, Clinical Biochemistry, Nanomedicine and Molecular docking.
